A big dose of happiness!

I like acronyms they help me to remember Interesting facts. Dose is perhaps my favourite acronym. It stands for all the chemical ingredients for a happy soul.

  • Dopamine
  • Oxytocin
  • Serotonin
  • Endorphin

A good dose of these will lift your spirits and set you on a higher path, but how do we tap into these?

Well let’s look at how each can be activated, do these regularly and feel the benefits.

Dopamine are neurotransmitters that are released when the autonomic nervous system is stimulated, tell me how are they stimulated!

Ok, set yourself a target, let’s say you plan to clean the kitchen top to bottom. You complete this task and as you look round the spotlessly clean kitchen this feeling of accomplishment comes over you. That’s dopamine, it’s the reward chemical. That inner satisfaction that you set out to complete a task and you did it. That pat in the back feeling is Dopamine. Other ways to trigger this would be eating a home cooked meal that’s been lovingly prepared, practising some self care and celebrating your accomplishments however small. These all add up to feeling well within.

Next is Oxytocin the love hormone. You are walking in the local park when this adorable puppy comes up to you for a tickle, as you stroke it and make a fuss over it Oxytocin is released making you feel an overwhelming love for all that is good in life. Other ways to access this hormone is holding someone’s hand, hugging and giving compliments to others. It’s all about connection. You want to feel good today, go out and connect with like minded souls.

Serotonin is another neurotransmitter this is referred to as the mood stabiliser. Not too high, not too down. You can activate this by gentle activities such as meditating, spending time in nature, sitting in the sunshine, going for a bike ride all these will trigger a release of serotonin. This will help balance and stabilise your mood.

Endorphins finish off our DOSE acronym. These are released when we laugh out loud, or when we eat dark chocolate, or do vigorous exercises. The endorphins released ease our pain or sadness. Some essential oils can also help stimulate our endorphins.

So there you have it an easy to use guide to lift you when you might be feeling down.

But what has this got to do with confession you might ask. Well just go back and have another look at Dopamine. Did you see it was triggered by completing a task. If your task is clearing up incidents from your past then this becomes your motivating factor. Once you set out to accomplish this then dopamine is released giving you that feeling of deep inner satisfaction that you took action and didn’t procrastinate.

If you want to elevate your mood, lift your energy levels and take on life, ask yourself if confession will help you achieve this.

Remember if you want to be free, stop locking yourself in the prison of your past. Let it go and let those endorphins flow.
